BLT & CATS Lose a
Long-Time Friend

Pegge Strandbergh died peacefully at Transylvania Regional Hospital on January 5th,
2009, following a severe stroke on December 27th.  She was 91 years old.

She had previously asked that you be told, “I lived a long and interesting life, full of fun.
I was married to Martin Strandbergh, with whom I enjoyed community theater wherever
we lived, from Florida to Illinois, Michigan and points beyond; together we had a
wonderful life. We retired in Brevard, where we made many friends through participation
in Brevard Little Theatre (BLT) and volunteer work at Transylvania Community Hospital,
St. Philips Episcopal Church, The Shop of St. Philips, and other worthy causes.”

Pegge was one of BLT’s oldest living members and most respected participants. Over
the course of two decades, she participated in over 30 productions, including directing
or producing at least nine of them and receiving three awards for Best Actress of the
Season.  She also served on the BLT board of directors for ten years and was its
president for several terms.  She actively participated until becoming legally blind and
unable to continue. In 2005, she received the BLT President's Award for Exceptional
Service.

She was equally active in the Connestee Amateur Theatre Society (CATS):  In 1986,
while she and Marty were living in Cedar Mountain, she became a charter member of
CATS, and its first official president. She participated in a number of its productions over
the subsequent decade or so before moving to Brevard.

Pegge’s husband and their two adopted children, Sally and John, preceded her in
death.  She is survived by a brother, A. Stewart Hale, in Illinois. Per her request, no
public services are planned.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Brevard Little
Theatre (P.O. Box 426, Brevard NC 28712), or TRH Hospice (P.O. Box 2440, Brevard
NC 28712).
